The Magic of Mother Nature

I have been looking for opportunities to connect to Mother Nature, allowing her to share all she has to offer with me. Nature gives so many opportunities to heal if we take a moment and pay attention with an open heart and mind.

Some days I find myself exhausted from a day of negative self-talk. Days when that lying voice tries to tear me down by filling my head with thoughts and worries about money, health, if I'm present enough for my kids, how I'm failing at pretty much everything I do, and on it goes with more and more lies. On other days I have been left exhausted from a day full of feeling anxiety and panic attacks. And then there are the days when I am so full of gratitude I NEED to feel connected. Thankfully I have been having more and more of the latter days lately.

Nature gifts us with many opportunities to connect with and absorb the healing power. Here are some that I have found helpful this past year.

Being barefoot outside: This is one of my favorite, more powerful ways to connect. I sit or stand with my feet in the grass. Connecting with Mother Nature this way is such a pure and easy way to ground yourself. I envision all stress, anxiety, and negativity flowing out of the bottom of my feet into the earth, and in its place, I visualize lush, healthy, green vines growing through me. Other times I sit and enjoy the softness of the grass and feel grateful for all the blessings I have received.

Taking a walk: I get out for a thirty-minute walk at least three times a week. While I am walking, I really take in what's around me. I breathe deep the air that lately smells like fresh flowers. I intentionally feel the breeze as it blows my hair. I feel the warmth of the sun on my face. All of these moments are healing me as I walk.

*Side note to my walks: I collect bits of nature, dry them out in the sun, and keep them in jars around the house. Bringing more nature inside.

Being greeted by snow in the morning: Over the winter, I woke to a beautiful shimmering blanket of snow covering the earth. I made myself a coffee, grabbed a blanket, and went outside on the porch. I took it all in, grateful for every unique snowflake that fell, offering a magical quiet around me. I was filled with peace as I breathed in the crisp, clean air, listening to the snowfall.

A rainstorm: I know many people who say that they feel down when it rains. I have felt this as well until I changed my perspective on rain. Rain is Mother Nature's way of nurturing and cleansing. As I listen to the rainfall, I envision it washing away any negativity or stress that I may be feeling. After the storm, I am no longer thirsty for renewal, as the sun that shines after brings it.

Of course, other things bring me joy, like birds chirping, planting in the garden, and fresh flowers in the house. All of these things fill my soul with peace and joy. Lately, I have been much more intentional about finding joy in any place I can to feed my spirit.
